You could find my sister Sue bent over in merry mirth, delighting in her glee, giggling as people stopped to see who had lost their ever-loving mind and was trying to start a fight in our rush to the cafeteria, bellering those words for everyone to hear!
It wasn’t a one-time thing and I think they all eventually got used to it at work it, but it still makes me shake my head. It also always makes me smile, ear to ear because I can hear that infectious giggle!
And I always took it to be a compliment.
I mean, I am a mother. And I think, I did a mighty fine job thank you very much!
Seriously, we have 4 grown children (I say we, as I will give Big E a small portion of the credit). They are happily married. We have 8 amazing grandchildren! I’m proud of them, which in turn, means I am proud of us and the job we did in raising them. And it wasn’t easy.
We have good kids. Great kids, even. Amazing adults and humans, for the most part. *wink*wink* That doesn’t mean it was easy. Raising humans is hard. So, kudos to all you out there putting in the effort day in and day out. Sunrise to sunset. All 1440 minutes of every 365 days of every year from the day they are born FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
It never ends…
You never quit being mom.
You never quit being dad.
You might get lucky and get promoted to Grammy or PaPa or whatever they choose to call you, but you never quit being mom and dad.
And that is okay. Actually, it is pretty darn okay.
It gets less tiring, then more expensive, then more tiring and more expensive, then just plain expensive! Then there is a brief pause and if you are lucky enough to get promoted, it gets SUPER EXPENSIVE!!! 🙂
I can’t speak to being a dad, but I can tell you that being a mom is exhausting. I can also tell you we don’t get near enough credit! We are real life superheroes, but I’m not going to preach (that’s what papas are for, ha ha, get it?). Everyone knows it! Moms are amazing! They are multi-talented, underappreciated, real-life superheroes! So, if you are lucky enough to still have your mama around make sure to give her an extra-long hug, if not today, sometime soon. Make sure she knows you are in her thoughts.
And dad’s day is coming soon… don’t forget those little mother’s either!!!
